Hot Air and Fantasy

Watercolours, 30x40cm. A Christmas gift for my dear sister .

This painting was inspired by a scene from one of our favourite movies, “The Adventures of Baron Munchausen” (directed by Terry Gilliam).
When the Baron and Sally take off in the balloon (made of women’s underwear!) to get help for saving the besieged city, one of the Baron’s enemies says to his henchman: “He won’t get far on hot air and fantasy.” But he surely did, of course!

The movie tells a lovely story about the power of imagination and was made without CGI effects. In the scene that inspired me, you can clearly see that the clouds were made of wool, but it still looked like an endless landscape of clouds!

Dreams and imagination can also always comprise risks and dangers. In the movie, the Baron is being followed by a scary winged skeleton that is after his soul…
Whatever we do, there’s always a danger of failing. When you’re chasing a dream, doubts and fears can be lurking behind every corner, but there’s also a chance that you could escape and outsmart them when you keep doing what you love to do.

Aquarell, 30x40 cm. Ein Weihnachtsgeschenk für meine liebe Schwester .

Dieses Bild wurde von einer Szene aus einem unserer Lieblingsfilme inspirert, „Die Abenteuer des Baron Münchhausen“ (Regie: Terry Gilliam).
Als der Baron und Sally in dem Ballon (aus Damenunterwäsche!) abheben, um Hilfe zu holen und die belagerte Stadt zu retten, sagt einer der Feinde des Barons zu seinem Handlanger: „Auf heißer Luft und Fantasie kommt er nicht weit.“ Und wie weit er damit kam!
Der Film erzählt eine schöne Geschichte über die Kraft der Fantasie und wurde ohne Computereffekte gemacht. In der Szene, die mich zu diesem Bild inspiriert hat, kann man genau sehen, dass die Wolken aus Wolle bestehen, aber sie sehen trotzdem wie eine endlose Wolkenlandschaft aus!

Träume und Fantasie können allerdings auch immer Risiken und Gefahren bergen. Im Film wird der Baron von einem gruseligen geflügelten Skelett verfolgt, das hinter seiner Seele her ist…
In allem was wir tun steckt die Gefahr des Scheiterns. Wenn man einem Traum nachjagt, können Zweifel und Ängste hinter jeder Ecke lauern, aber es besteht auch die Chance, sie zu überlisten und ihnen zu entkommen, wenn man einfach weiterhin das tut, was man liebt.
